Episode 123 - The Hobbit Review Plus Bonus 48 Frames Per Second Review

On this week's episode of GFR, Carlos and Steve V. agree to disagree about the first installment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, "An Unexpected Journey." They'll hit all the high points, including PJ's controversial decision to shoot the film in 48 fps. Joining the high frame rate discussion will be fellow Geek Tony, who, along with Carlos, had the chance to view it in this new format!

Episode 122 - Prometheus Deleted Scenes

Ridley Scott's Prometheus was one of last year's most polarizing blockbusters, provoking extreme reactions from genre fans, including members of the GFR crew. Today, Carlos and Steve V. will discuss the many deleted scenes on the recent blu ray release as they continue debating the merits of the film. Discussions for a sequel are in the early stages (which Steve hopes will shed some light on the many plot holes he noticed!) At this stage, all we know for sure is that Damon Lindelof will not write it (which also makes Steve happy!)

Best of (what I saw in) 2012 - by Rob

I saw about 20 movies in the theater between January 1st and December 31st, and I have to say I think I chose pretty well. With the limited time I have, I don't make it to the theater nearly as much as I did in my moviegoing salad days (My record is 54, set in the glorious movie year of 1994.) and I have to be more discerning. More often than not, though, when I waited till Netflix to see something I missed, it turned out to be the right move.

But only seeing such a low number of films makes it hard for me to do a traditional top ten list. So in choosing the cream of the crop, I fell short by a few titles. There are also a few films I have not yet seen that may have made the list, but if i waited then put them on the list it wouldn't be the Best of What I Saw in 2012 anymore, would it?

On today's installment of GFR, Carlos and Steve V. discuss Hollywood's proclivity for rebooting, reimagining and remaking beloved franchises. Whether it's comics, sci-fi or television, the powers that be will never let a good thing die when dollar signs are involved! So today we hit the reset button on some of the more notable do-overs like Spider-Man, Batman, The Hulk, X-Men, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, The A-Team and the granddaddy of all reboots...Bond, James Bond.
